Luminescence are a Brisbane-based string group exploring the spaces between contemporary, classical and experimental performance. This group of two cellists (Emma Hales and Anitah Kumar) and two violinists (Liz Young and Toukie Wood) are passionate about turning their traditional instruments into the unconventional.

Luminescence are constantly innovating with their performance through collaborations; design; audience interaction; and a breathtaking program of contemporary music, showcasing internationally acclaimed composers, Brisbane’s own creative talents and genre-bending originals.

Since coming together in 2018, Luminescence have worked on projects with a spectrum of creatives – from visual artist and designer, Chris Mangos, to indie-psych outfit, The Jensens – and have joined the line ups of Jungle Love Festival, Brisbane Street Art Festival, GOMA Up Late, Yonder Festival and Anywhere Festival.
