Bcharre ي ْرِّش َب
Bcharre (Arabic: ي ْرِّش َب ْBšarrī; also Romanised Becharre, Bsharri, Bsharre)
Embroidered with the richness of the art and poetry of his family’s village, Bcharre’s immersive, transportative music draws deeply from his Middle Eastern roots, language and culture. With the dynamic rhythms and cinematic textures of his Berlin-techno meets cinematic sound, it’s easy to get lost in the stories of Bcharre’s music.
Based in Brisbane (Meanjin) Australia, Bcharre is ready to explode his driving electronic sound to a full band after playing to packed crowds at Splendour in the Grass (2019) and Falls Festival (2019, 2020).
Bcharre (ي ْر ِّش َب (ْ) is named after the mountain-top village his family have called home since the migrating from Ancient Egypt during the Phonecian era. Read below a poem by Malik Taouk, the artists’ father.
By Malik Taouk
Look up there/ to the mountain village hanging from the neck of the sun and dipped in blue/ I’m from up there/ from the darkness of the night/ I suckled the poems and the wine/ I’m from up there/ tell me the words on my tongue/From the rocks as strong as my pride/ With the tempest blows that shakes the pine trees/ I was raised and I’m still growing here.
