Meanjin’s favourite semi-bi-monthly queer dance party, Shandy, has decided to decamp (but we definitely haven’t de-camped, honey) to Yonder to serve up some powerful queer dancefloor energy.
To hold your hand and guide you into the deep end, we have Shandy Daddy, Sweaty Baby, joined by the extraordinary talents of Casino Mum and Update Prayer.
Don’t fret if you think you’re not queer, as long as you’re ready to liberate yourself from the shackles of cis-heteronormativity, you’re welcome to come – if we’ve learned anything from pasta, we know that once things start to get wet and warmed up, they’re often not as straight as we may have thought they were.

Sweaty Baby
DJ Sweaty Baby (aka Thomas Parer) (@toemass) is a lawyer-cum-party captain of Shandy, and some of the silliest nights out you’ll have. He is passionate about creating inclusive spaces which foster connection and partying with an aim to achieving liberation via the medium of sweaty, passionate dancing. Sweaty Baby recently founded ‘Shandy’, a monthly queer dance party in Brisbane, and is inspired by an range of genres, eras, and moods, with a soft spot for disco, house, pop, and hip hop – and is ultimately committed to making you laugh and smile as you move your feet.

Casino Mum
Transcending music genres and the gender binary, Casino Mum (@casino_mum) doesn’t believe in boxing yourself in.
If you give them free rein, expect to hear equal parts techno, gabber, disco, pop, acid and rap.
Coming from an experienced background of staying awake for too long, a Casino Mum set reflects the actions of a true Gemini – keeping you low-key stressed out but also gagging for more.

Update Prayer
Their mind always wandering, Update Prayer loves to bring together eclectic sounds into a cohesive sensual experience.
Expect a lush, groove focussed sound comprised of house, disco, funk, and plenty more to keep you smiling with your eyes closed.
